Dr. Kenneth Andronico is an Ophthalmologist (Eye Physician & Surgeon) who has been University fellowship trained in Cornea and Refractive Surgery. He skillfully performs LASIK surgery for the correction of vision problems such as astigmatism, nearsightedness, and farsightedness.
What is LASIK?
LASIK is a precise procedure that corrects vision by reshaping the cornea to facilitate the accurate focus of light onto the retina. When the cornea is properly shaped, the patient regains clearer vision. The procedure takes only about 20 minutes. It is made comfortable with numbing eye drops. Within a day or two after the procedure, many patients noticed a marked improvement in visual clarity.
The LASIK procedure
LASIK involves the creation of a flap on the surface of the cornea. This flap is slightly lifted in order to gain access to the tissue beneath. Using state-of-the-art UV light laser technology, Dr. Andronico carefully removes tiny amounts of tissue to achieve optimal contouring. The method of shaping will depend on the type of correction desired:
- Nearsighted patients will benefit from corneal flattening
- Farsighted patients need the cornea steepened
- Astigmatism requires reshaping to achieve more spherical contours
After precision reshaping, the corneal flap is repositioned and it will heal within a matter of days.
Several different refractive eye surgeries may be performed. Dr. Andronico conducts a thorough consultation and diagnostic examination to determine the most suitable method of correction. Discussing your needs and expectations is important to finding the solution that fits your lifestyle.
Refractive eye surgery may be performed to correct nearsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism, and presbyopia. Some procedures are performed to reshape the cornea in order to improve the accuracy of light reflection on the retina. Other types of refractive surgeries correct vision by replacing an unhealthy lens. One of the most commonly performed refractive procedures is LASIK, which has been successful in helping millions of patients decrease their reliance on corrective eyewear.
